MY LIVING ROOM! (finally)

Here it is folks. As promised (a couple weeks ago, ha!) I finally have some updated pictures of my living room. Keep in mind, its still, "in progress" because there are 10 million projects i'd still like to tackle in it. (as well as the rest of my house) but it is perfect for now, and I am so happy to finally get to share!

LOVE this mirror in my entry way
This antique pie table was passed down from my great, great aunt. Cool right?
These home made chalk boards don't work great, but they look pretty!

Sofa table/ Cabinet for extra blankets

A close up of our console table on the back wall
Big comfy couch

Remember my Mississippi mud jars?! They have found their home!

Just a little shadow box of me and my lovey over the years
Have to rep' our PADS!

Our San Diego shrine! These are pictures from our going away, and a letter from our best friends.

The back picture is all of our best friends at our going away party.
My sweet, small little room with a beautiful view

Fisherman ;)

and there she is! So far my project list for the living room is as follows:

-Buy a giant rug to tie the whole space together
-Mount lanterns on either side of the entertainment center
- Buy new entertainment center
-Lay down laminate over the horrible green carpet
- Find more vintage frames to balance out the back wall
- paint pie table white (or another color maybe)

and thats it...FOR NOW! I may be done once this list is checked off, but chances are I won't be. For now though, I need to give it a rest and focus on our bedroom! Which is slowly coming along but has quite awhile to go. I will keep you updated!!

A husband proof meal:

Jake can't do anything in the kitchen. I always joke that he can't even make cereal right. But this isn't really a joke, its pretty serious and his milk-to-cereal ratio is completely off. So when it came to dinner the other night, I knew I wouldn't be home to prepare it, and he would, so it was time to get creative.

 Red Beans and Rice: man-proofed

Step one: your ingredients

Easy peasy. You need a green pepper, some red beans (kidney beans) an onion, 3 cloves of garlic, smoked sausage, s&p, old bay seasoning, cayenne pepper, beef stock (2 cups worth), and some rice.

Now you just chop all of your ingredients and put them in your crock pot sleeve. (This step is very important, as Jake once tried to assemble the ingredients in a crockpot without a sleeve...this did not go well.) Mix everything together in your sleeve, cover with plastic wrap, and store in fridge.

This next step is of equal importance. I use these super handy stock packets made by swanson, because they take up no pantry space, pack some SERIOUS flavor, and you can decide how rich you want your stock. So, I set out 2 stock packets, with a PRE-MEASURED pitcher of water (2  cups), so that my sweet sweet Jacob wasn't confused 1 bit when it came to how much liquid to pour into the crock pot.

(don't forget to remind your honey to PLUG IN the crock pot, or else you could come home to a not-so-cooked meal.)

VOILA! With these simple pre-steps I took to make sure my lovie dovie was set up for success, we had a fantastic dinner, and I even let him take all of the credit!

I forgot to mention...you will probably need to make the rice yourself...or else you will end up with a black-bottomed-burnt rice pan, and no one wants one of those. (that part is simple though, 1 cup rice, 2 cups liquid, lid on, simmer 20 minutes, NO PEEKING!)

How is your hubby in the kitchen? Better than you? Much much worse? Or does he need to take a remedial course in cooking 101. (ie...Jake)

p.s. I didn't take a picture of the aftermath...I was too hungry...so this it what you Rb&r should sort of resemble...

I hope you try out these simple steps for husband-kitchen-success!

What I wore Wednesday

Like most women, I like to go shopping. And pinterest doesn't help that one bit. I mean, come on ladies, how many times do you see a to-die-for outfit on there, and want to get your hiney in the mall as quick as you can?

Well recently I started challenging myself to actually LOOK at "my style" pinboard, and take some of those looks I love so much and try to replicate, with stuff I already have in my closet. Its a challenge. But let me share with you my first semi-success story.

Inspiration

to.die.for. Right? Not to mention this girl is like negative size 0 and perfect looking. The maxi skirt does it for me, (hello cute dress without shaving your legs!) And I am all for button downs because they are perfect for the office. I am also LOVING the chunky necklace trend, but haven't picked one up for myself yet. But without further adieu, my semi similar replication:

P.s. this picture was taken AFTER work, as opposed to when I looked nice at 6 AM. Therefor you will have to forgive the fact that I dont look NEAR as cute as I did when I left for work.

But I love this outfit! It was perfect for the office today, and I felt comfortable all day.

I got it at:

Skirt: (actually a dress! I just snipped the top and tucked it to make it a skirt!) T.J maxx $6.00!!
Button down: Ross, $12.00
Belt: Charlotte Russe $12.00
Lack of jewelry cause I suck at it, Priceless.

Happy Hump Day!

All the..small things:

In this house, we love Blink 182...but anyways, I have this strange obsession with small spaces. 3000 square foot home? No thanks. I would like a cramped 1300 square foot craftsman please. What is wrong with me?!

Let me give you a fine little piece of ex-Kylie-home-history.

Home 1:
was when I moved out of my parents house shortly after I turned 18. It was a glorified shed. It was actually a guest house in someones backyard, but it was all of 150 square feet, but it was home. My home. The first one I made all by myself and I look back on it with the BEST memories ever. I had to get creative with storage, never had enough room for clutter, and it was SO EASY to clean. I miss that sweet little shack.
These are the only photos of it I could find:

My 1st Christmas tree as a "grown up". Thats my dining room table behind it. Yeah, tiny.

My girlfriend and I hanging out (we may have had a drink or two..) in the storage cubby above my kitchen. Yes that tiny space down below was my kitchen!

My bed/dressing area. The glare in the mirror was my front door. This place was NO JOKE it was so tiny. But I loved it, oh so much.

Home 2:
This was the condo that Jake and I lived in when we first moved in together. We both agree it was the worst 6 months of our lives. Don't get me wrong, the condo was DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, and our landlord was the cats meow, but we couldn't afford our rent, therefor we certainly could furnish the place, and my creative self just couldn't be free. We had the absolute bare minimum as far as furniture and decorations went, because we just COULDN'T AFFORD more. And that sucked. We had this beautiful 1100 square foot condo, and our extra bedroom was 100 percent empty, and there was nothing on the walls. (Plus we fought constantly cause we had no money and could barely afford groceries and it was just a bad experience for the both of us)
Only photos of home 2 I could find:

Our sweet little dining space. (please ignore the quality of all of these photos, it was before my iphone)
That was our psycho pups Lilly, who sadly had to go live with a new family. But thats another story. You can sort of see how open and big it was. I really did love the place! We were just too poor at the time!
This was when we were moving out. It was a nice large space. But I do not know why we had so many boxes. There was no way we had that much stuff.

Home 3: Our last home. Our sweet little 500 square foot La Mesa cottage. Again, BEST memories. It was so.damn.tiny. There was 1 closet in the entire house, we couldn't fit a table in the "dining room" (if thats even what you want to call it) and it was perfect in every way. We saved a freaking ton on rent each month, (and Jake got promoted so he made a ton of extra money anyway), it was the best neighborhood ever, and we got to decorate and DIY to our hearts content. That place was PACKED with stuff, but we did our best to be creative with storage, so it never felt too cramped. At least to us.
Our last tiny little home. That door over there in the corner was our only closet. It served as a his-hers (more like hers hers)/cleaning closet/linen closet/junk you dont want people to see closet. But I absolutely loved it here. I miss it already! I get homesick looking at all these photos. Okay, time to move along...

SO as you can tell, big spaces=bad memories, small spaces=sweet memories. I.LOVE.SMALL.SPACES.

As I shared a few weeks ago, Jake and I have been meeting with different builders about a new home, and visiting different subdivisions and so on and so forth. Here's a fun little fact about tract homes in the south. They are all gorgeous. However, they have not one ounce of individuality. Im not kidding here folks, my head literally hurts from all the brick homes with large front porches and green lawns. (what a princess).

That being said, yesterday I had to take my dad to the airport, (hope your havin fun in San Antonio pops!) and on the way there (its like a freaking eternity to get there and in the middle of bum-f*ck eqypt) I spotted these sweet little craftsman homes, with no brick in site, bright-ass front doors, and gorgeous colors that in no way resembled white/rust/or brown brick. I decided to make a little stop on my way back and my heart was stolen. STOLEN I TELL YOU!

p.s this house has a bright-ass magenta door. I am in love with it. Literally, have you seen "my strange addiction" where the guy is in a relationship with his car? Or the crazy ass woman who clearly needs medication, who claims to have sex with the Eiffle tower? Well, I get it now. Thats how I feel about this perfectly sweet starter home. Bad news is, this beauty has sold, and the other options in this much smaller subdivision aren't as sweet, but still awesome none the less. I immediately called the listing agent and we have an appointment to view the other 5 homes for sale tomorrow.  Here are some images via trulia so you get the idea:

This kitchen is miniscule compared to the others we have seen. But there is just something about it! and there is no pantry that I can see either so I will need to get creative here...hmmmm projects in a brand spankin' new, never been lived in home, anyone?
Hey! There is no fireplace either, and I am not even sure if a sectional couch would fit in this tiny living room. But something about it makes me feel at home.
Want to know another thing I hate? The fact that the master is on the 1st floor, and the other 2 bedrooms are upstairs. WHY THE HELL DO BUILDERS DO THIS. DO you think I want to trek my breast feeding ass up the stairs to attend to my crying baby at 3 in the morning? No I do not.
I am assuming this is one of the 2 upstairs bedrooms. Cute size it looks like, but who knows, it could be more like "closet size"
Oh yeah, did I mention no dining room either? But its not exactly like we're throwing dinner parties every weekend, HELLO, NEW TO THE AREA, NO FRIENDS OVER HERE!
MAGENTA DOOR MAGENTA DOOR! I get house-horny for this entry way. I am serious I want to kiss those gorgeous wood floors.
This is actually a brighter orange in person I think. And i'm prettysure the door is magenta now. But whatever you get the idea. I want a white picket fence, and some pretty flowers against my green lawn right here.
here are the 6 homes in their cute little individual glory. I just love them and I don't know why.

Seriously though, the other houses we have looked at are 4+ bedrooms, with giant formal dining rooms and whirlpool bathtubs and yards that would need a john deer to mow. But they just don't  do it for me. Ya know? That feeling like "this is where I wanna come home from the hospital with my first child feeling". Thats what I got, JUST from spying in windows, stalking trulia, and hoping fences to peek in every backyard.

So I got to thinkin' about the issues I have with the house.

1) no fireplace. Thats not really that big of an issue. I can always buy one of those little mantles and put some candles underneath it, right? Hey you fireplace owners out there, how important would you say it really is?

2) Stupid-as-f*ck master downstairs: Again, not too big of an issue. Since really, the entire house will be ours, we could make the large downstairs into a super sweet office/guest room/extra living space. I think it would be fun! As much as I'd like to think that we have friends flying in left and right to stay with us for weeks at a time, thats just not a-happenin'. We will have guests in there 2 weeks out of the year max, so an extra living space instead of a master could be nice, right? I can easily adapt to a smaller bedroom upstairs, so we can be next to the (one day in the far far away future) nursery.

3) No pantry: this is a bit of an issue. But it can be easily fixed. some nice wood shelving in either the "extra living space master bedroom" or something like that. It will help me work on my creativity, people!

4) No room for dining: again, not really an issue. We have no dining room table now, basically cause its pointless since we never use it, and I know it'd be the same in the new house. Why on earth would we need an 8 person formal dining room when we dont even know 8 people in this town to begin with?! A cute little "breakfast nook" would be plenty sufficient. Right?!

and those are my only cons so far. I haven't even been on the inside yet. and I am already planning my furniture and what I would like to do to change bits and pieces. (I may or may have not called a professional painting company to get a quote on what it would cost to paint the outside a super fun color). So whats your opinion on this tiny house business? The way I see it is, its just Jake and I right now. And even when we do have a baby in 3-4 years, its a BABY, they don't exactly need room to stretch out. And by the time our family grows larger, we will hopefully have enough equity in the home to sell, and buy that large dream home everyone talks about.

I just  love small spaces. I am not sure what it is. The being creative with furniture/storage, the fact that you have a lot less floor space to vacuum, or the fact that a small home means being that much closer to who you share that small home with.

I think I have made up my mind.

P.s. If you follow me on pinterest, you will probably notice a LOT of small-space organizing/decorating inspiration. I.just.can't.help.myself.

Why I love this man:

Jake: Freaking sh** Gosh damnit mother effer
Me: what is your damage?!
Jake: the blankets are all messed up and I can't get them to cover me right
Me: what are you talking about (eye roll cause he is clearly cover challenged)
Jake: I think the problem is the down comforter is all twisted inside the Laboof
Me: the WHAT?!
Jake: the laboof
Me: you mean the Duvet????
Jake: um. um.

Hysterical laughter to the point of tears rolling down our faces.

Yes, Jake thought a Duvet was called a "laboof" as in Shia laboof (or however you spell it) from holes or transformers. I got me a master of all that is decor ladies, keep the drool to yourselves.

(Let the record reflect that Jake does, in fact, have a tooth there...he can just pop it out whenever he feels like it..but thats another story)

30 before 30 update:

Some of you may remember my post about my 30 before 30. The 30 things I would like to accomplish before I turn 30. Check it here! All I can say is, man thats ambitious. I mean, 50 thousand dollars in a savings account? Thats a couple thousand a year at least, not touching!! I can do it though! What do you think? Do you have a 30 before 30 list?

Today I want to talk about #3, finding a church we really love. Which we HAVE! We've been attending this Church for about a month now, and I have never felt more "home" than I do there. Jake and I knew it was for us when we walked in the door. The lead pastor came over and shook our hands and greeted us, and took us to our seats. It was awesome to be recognized as "new" like that, because that means he keeps a relationship with his congregation.  SO, I can officially say I have crossed #3 off of my list. Now on to the other 26!! 1-6 should be completed by the end of 2013, I hope at least! Number 7 however, is going to have to wait a few years!

What do you guys think about a "number before age" list? I love the idea. I really want to do it every 10 years. What is life without goals? I totally have a million.

Anyways, I had a very long day of house-browsing, and Jake had an AMAZING 1st day as a deputy. I couldn't be happier for him :)

I'm BACKK! My instagram Monday:

HELLO! My favorite bloggy friends! How are ya?! Anything new happen in the two weeks since we've chatted?! I feel like a TON has happened!! Ever feel like you just needed a blog "break"? Well that was my past 2 weeks. I was out of good material, and I just needed some time to think! But I am back in action, and feelin' more ready than ever to get back to this bloggin business!

As most of you know, I quit my job a few days ago, and I am so happy to be out of there, however, I am going STIR CRAZY in this house all day! Naturally the first thing I want to do is start organizing, and DIY decor galore, however with the whole no-job for now thing, I think its safe for us all if I AVOID HOBBY LOBBY AT ALL COSTS!! I do however have a 2nd interview at this SUPER SWEET hospital tomorrow, (a second interview is always a good sign, right?!) so keep your fingers crossed for me!!!!

In other FANTASTIC news, Jake, the if i ever get a ring on it future Hubs, has THE BEST NEWS OF ALL TO SHARE! I shared it with most of you right after it happened on facebook, but...wait for it..wait for it......IS NOW A DEPUTY SHERIFF YAHOOOOOO! Best news ever in the entire world. Did I mention he has wanted to be in law enforcement since he was in diapers? Did I also mention he tried for THREE YEARS to get into some kind of law enforcement in San Diego, (and I tell you he has QUITE the resume) and STILL COULDNT?! Well he got the call this week that he has been accepted as a Deputy Sheriff, (he's been going through the process since we moved out here) and we couldn't be more proud of him. Waita go honey! Watch out Arkansas, there is a new Sheriff in town!!

Thats about all the updates i've got for ya today, but I promise, there is a lot more Arkansas awesomeness comin' at ya this week!! Thank y'all for always coming back to read, it means everything to me!

Without further adieu, my life through my iphone the past 2 weeks:

Jake and I went shooting. I didn't do too shabby for my first time behind a gun!

Yes, it was seriously this hot last week. M I S E R A B L E. Luckily, its been in the low 90's this week, HEAVEN!

This video, KILLS ME! We were OBNOXIOUSLY singing Kaedyns bible tunes to him, and he was looking at us like "I couldn't care less if I tried" hahahaha
My sweet baby sister at her 1st job!! I was SO PROUD OF HER this day! She is rockin' it and working WAY more than I ever did at my 1st job. You go sonic girl, you GO!
 Fishin'
After our grocery shoppin' trip last weekend, I took the time to prep and put away all of our produce and to pre-cook some pasta and quinoa for quick healthy meals/snacks for the week.
 Yep, livin' the thug life.
MY FIRST HAIR CUT!! I could just die he is so cute. He did SO GOOD!! Sat still the entire time. He totally doesn't look like a baby anymore though! Such a little man!
I made cauliflower crust pizza! Its basically ALL veggies which is super awesome for your body, not the greatest on your palette, i'll be honest. But still an "alright" meal if you ask me!
I DO believe that is the beginning of a bicep...what do you think?! Hard work seems to be paying off in the gym!!
My incredibly cute pink blender bottle.
CHEAT DAY!! Jake and I took cheating to the max the other day with some Cajun-cookin'. SOO good! On the top we've got some southern seafood gumbo, on the bottom some crab stuffed ravioli. DIE!
